I had the privilege to attend the 2008 North Carolina Science Blogging Conference on Saturday. Bloggers have already spilled countless bottles of virtual ink talking about the conference, so I’ll simply add that I had a great time. It was a remarkably cool group of nerds to hang around with, and the discussions gave me a lot of food for thought.
It also got cold this weekend. Cold enough that we actually got a bit of snow on Saturday. There’s still remnants left on the ground. Interestingly, we didn’t see the usual chaotic effects that snow usually has on North Carolina - or maybe it’s only because it was on a Saturday, when everyone isn’t trying to simultaneously leave work to drive painfully slowly.
I hosted Shawn, a fellow couchsurfer last night. I admit to feeling a bit of jealousy towards him; he’s moving from Buffalo to Florida to start a new life for himself. There’s something incredibly appealing about putting my worldly goods on CraigsList, eBay and Freecycle, packing the bits and pieces that are really important to me, and getting the hell out of Dodge. There’s a world waiting to be seen out there, and I’m not getting any closer working for “the man” and living in a suburb.
