Here’s a very simple equation that I learned last Wednesday:
Not a tough combination, really. I have owned this car for four years, and it’s really amazing that this is my first speeding ticket. Sadly, it wasn’t anything dramatic - 44 in a 35 zone. Not something to brag about in the locker room.
So what’s the funny part? This is my first ticket in North Cackalacky, and I guess they are all on the public record, because within two days I received no less than SIX letters from lawyers:
Some of them came with fridge magnets. Others with brochures talking about the evils of demerit points and potential insurance increases. They are all written by people with names like Edward and Robert, and signatures that end in “Esq.” The portraits on their business cards are stern, and I have no doubt that these men (is it ironic that they are all men?) would wage serious courtroom war against the Wake County Sheriff, over a 9 mph speeding ticket.
There’s a lot more to this story than meets the eye (not directly related to the speeding ticket, mind you, but rather my mental state when I received said ticket), but that will have to wait. There’s some things I’m just not ready to blog about yet.
