For those of you who don’t know, Canada turns 140 years old today.
I hung a Canadian flag - a pre-1965 Canadian flag, known as the Canadian Red Ensign - in my front window today. I couldn’t quite get myself up to installing one of those diagonal flag holders on the front of my house; maybe next year.
Today has me feeling all nostalgic about living in Canada, and our upcoming visit to Vancouver and Calgary in August. This is the most appropriate photo I could put my hands on right now; it was taken on our last trip to Toronto last year when we had a picnic at Palmer Park in Port Perry.
Happy Birthday, old girl. You’re missed.

Happy Birthday, eh?
most people don’t know this about me, but I’m only a 2nd generation American.
in fact, my Grandfather migrated to the U.S. from Canada (Bear River, in Nova Scotia- if I have my family history straight). he served in the R.C.M.P., the R.N.W.M.P., and as an infantry captain during WWI.
quite the old cuss, from what I understand… unfortunately, I never knew the man, as he passed away when I was about 2.
sincere best wishes for a great Holiday to our Neighbors to the North!
have a great one, Mike!

sincere best wishes to my friends north of the border (and to everyone else up there) from someone who loves passing time in that part of the world.

CanSouth had a wonderful gathering in Charlotte yesterday! We had food, and beer and swag from the Canadian consulate and Connect2Canada. A fun time was had by all.
